Doctor Sleep

In December 2019, I watched the movie Doctor Sleep at Movix Kameari. The horror and fantasy film was amazing and scared me several times. I also felt that it was not so long in spite of its length being 153 minutes. 

I think that it is a piece of entertainment, unlike The Shining that I believe is a piece of art. Even so, the sequel is not bad. I just have realized anew how wonderful Stanley Kubrick, the 1980 flick's director, is.

The lead, Ewan McGregor, was 48 years old when it was released, however, he still looked a young man. He also seemed to still be pure. His smile was refreshing. His aura was magical. I even could feel the light in his eyes. 

The bewitching Rebecca Ferguson also fascinated and struck me. She was acting a cool and evil woman quite well and gorgeously spiced the film.

ドクター・スリープ

2019年12月、『ドクター・スリープ』をMovix亀有にて観覧した。面白かった。数回ビビらされたホラー要素満載の大人向けおとぎ話。153分だけど、長く感じ無かった。

アートと呼べる前作『シャイニング』と比べると、本作は娯楽作品。改めてスタンリー・キューブリックの偉大さを感じたが、この作品も悪くは無いと思う。 

主演のユアン・マクレガーは公開当時48歳。いい歳したオッサンのはずが、まだ青年に見えた。純粋さもまだ完全に失っていなくて、笑顔も相変わらず爽やか。眼に光を感じる不思議な魅力に溢れていた。 

あと、レベッカ・ファーガソンの妖艶さにも魅せられた。カッコいい悪女を好演していて、この作品の良いスパイスになっていると思う。

It & It Chapter Two

A young co-worker told me that the horror film It really scared her at a theater, so I became interested in and watched it on DVD in April 2018. However, it was not so scary. Moreover, I could not stop smiling every time Ben, a fat boy, appeared in it because he reminded me the fat and funny Bern in Stand by Me. 

In November 2019, I watched It Chapter Two at Movix Kameari. The movie was a good human drama with horror and like dark fantasy. It sometimes startled me but it did not overwhelm me, unlike Joker. 

Although ghosts and special effects superficially create fear for a few minutes, yet the fear do not reach my heart and it cannot totally frighten me. I have now recognized again that insanity in humans is more scary. 

After watching the two films, I came to feel like watching Stand by Me and Hearts in Atlantis that are based on the novels of Stephen King, as well as It and It Chapter Two. All of the main characters and their friends are buried by senior students in all of the movies. The author might have had such experiences. 

イット ＆ イット THE END

職場の若い同僚から映画館で観た『IT／イット "それ" が見えたら、終わり』が凄く怖かったと聞き、興味が湧いて2018年４月にDVDで観たが、あまり怖くはなかった。それどころか、太った男の子ベンが『スタンド・バイ・ミー』の同じく太ったバーンを連想させて、少し笑ってしまった。 

そして、2019年11月、『IT／イット THE END "それ" が見えたら、終わり』をMovix亀有にて観覧。ホラーを交えた良質な人間ドラマだった。ダーク・ファンタジーとも言える。数場面でビビらされたが、10月に観た『ジョーカー』ほど心に迫ってこなかった。

映画における霊や特殊効果の恐ろしさは数秒。心に届かなければ大したことはない。本当に怖いのは、人の内面に宿る狂気。改めて思った。 

観覧後、スティーヴン・キング原作の映画、『スタンド・バイ・ミー』と『アトランティスのこころ』を改めて観たくなった。いずれの作品でも、主人公の子供達は上級生に虐められる。あれは作者の実体験なのかな。

Greta

I am not interested in fearful movies so much, but I watched no less than three horrible ones at theaters in 2019. It Chapter Two, Doctor Sleep and Greta. 

The first two movies, which are based on the novels of Stephen King, startled me several times but both of them did not frighten me so much. The scariest movie was the last one. 

I watched Greta at Kinema Junpo Theater in December 2019. I felt really terrified especially when the psychotic Greta performed by Isabelle Huppert persistently harassed Frances played by Chloe Grace Moretz who was a little plump with a baby face. Frances was so cute and charming that I naturally empathized with the young woman and I even wished the psychotic lady to be killed, needless to say, which shows what a wonderful performance Isabelle Huppert gave as Greta.

グレタ

怖い系の映画にはあまり興味は無いが、2019年は３本も劇場観覧した。『IT／イット THE END “それ”が見えたら終わり』、『ドクター・スリープ』、そして、『グレタ』。

スティーヴン・キング原作の前２作品は、数回ビビらされたが、恐怖はそれ程でもなかった。でも、『グレタ』だけは怖かった。

2019年12月、キネマ旬報シアターにてその『グレタ』を観覧。イザベル・ユペール演じるサイコ女グレタは凄く怖かった。特に、主人公の若い女性フランシスを執拗に責め立てる場面は恐ろしかった。逆に、フランシスを演じたポッチャリで童顔のクロエ・グレース・モレッツは本当に可愛らしく、怯える彼女に感情移入してしまい過ぎて、グレタに殺意すら抱いた。それだけイザベルの演技が素晴らしかったという事だろう。

Richard Jewell

In February 2020, I watched Richard Jewell at Movix Kameari. A wonderful movie. I was really moved. 

A middle-aged man had designs on a woman, which partly made the main character a prime suspect. It was based on a true story which disgusted me. I also felt depressed by the controversial natures of some characters in it, such as sensuality, aspiration, greed, prejudice, paranoia, disdain and cunning. I even thought that being too pure might be bad as the case may be, though it is a lovable nature. 

The film is meaningful and serious. I want to watch the kind of movie occasionally, not every week. 

As for actors, Kathy Bates looked charming. I think that she is getting prettier every year. She must be a good person. 

I am the kind of guy who shallowly chooses a movie to watch depending on its actors, so I wavered on whether to do the film but I decided to in the end because the director is the great filmmaker Clint Eastwood, who does not star in it, though. When I watched The Mule in March 2019, I was shocked that he was acting an elderly man whose appearance looked far from the protagonists in Thunderbolt, Dirty Harry and even Gran Torino. I hope that he will create wonderful movies like that as many as he can and quit to strain to appear in ones.

リチャード・ジュエル

2020年２月、Movix亀有にて『リチャード・ジュエル』を観覧。良い映画。感動した。 

主人公が犯人扱いされるキッカケが、オッサンのスケベ心。笑えない実話。色ボケ。功名心。野心。偏見。猜疑心。傲慢。狡猾さ。人が持つ嫌な性質を目の当たりにした。そして、純粋過ぎるのも、愛すべき個性だが、場合によっては罪かもしれないとさえ思ってしまった。 

まあまあシリアスだから毎週観たいタイプの作品ではないが、たまにだったら悪くはない意義のある映画。 

キャシー・ベイツがチャーミングだった。観る度に可愛らしくなっている気がする。きっと良い人なんだろう。 

出演者で観る映画を決めるミーハーなので、本作を観るべきかどうか迷ったが、御大クリント・イーストウッド監督作であることが決め手となり観賞。今回は出演無しのイーストウッド。『サンダーボルト』や『ダーティー・ハリー』の面影が失せていた、前作の『運び屋』における老いぼれ役の演技は、『グラン・トリノ』ではまだ矍鑠としていただけに、ショックだった。もう無理して主演せずに、本作のような良い映画を可能な限り撮り続けてほしい。

Ford v Ferrari #2

In February 2020, I watched Ford v Ferrari again at Movix Kameari. I had watched Teen Spirit and Hustlers whose wonderful female actors struck and fascinated me, and after that, conversely, I come to want to watch a movie starring cool male actors. 

The styles and passions of the protagonists in the racing movie made me naturally smile many times. I fully felt comfortable with the 153-minute film again. Especially, I was really moved by the love of Ford racer's son for his father. I also wanted to keep watching Matt Damon and Christian Bale, who were acting the lovable, tough and rough guys, forever. 

Silly were most of the characters in suits. Watching them, however, I wondered what happiness was. Those company executives were desperately protecting their vested interests, which they had made sacrifices and struggled to reach the positions to secure, so as to make their family happy. Life is tough. 

フォードvsフェラーリ #2

2020年２月、『フォードvsフェラーリ』をMovix亀有にて再観覧。『ティーンスピリット』や『ハスラーズ』でカッコいい美女達を続けて観たので、その反動で、カッコいい野郎達を観たくなっての再観賞。

前回同様、大画面に映し出された男達の情熱や流儀に幾度と無く頰が緩んだ。再び大満足の２時間半。今回は特に、レーサーの息子の、父を想う気持ちにグッときた。そして、マット・デイモンとクリスチャン・ベールが演じていた、愛すべきハミ出し野郎達。ずっと観ていたかった。

あと、今回もダサかった背広姿のオジサン達。だが、そんな彼等も、その地位を得るために犠牲を払いながら努力を重ね、そして、彼等の家族を幸せにしたいが故にその既得権益にしがみついている事を思うと、幸せって何だろうと思う。人生は辛い。

Hustlers

In February 2020, I watched Hustlers at TOHO Cinemas Kinshicho Olinas in Sumida Ward, Tokyo. 

Although I had hugely been looking forward to seeing various pretty women, yet I was captivated only by Jennifer Lopez in the end. I saw the Hispanic beauty for the first time in ten years. She, however, was still beautiful and attractive, moreover, dignified. When I watched her stately walking, I felt at a moment that a celestial beauty might be allowed to commit a crime. 

I had mixed feelings when her gang was trapping rich men. That also made me think that I must be careful for beautiful women to come on to me if I should get big money. 

Jen's strip show was a sight to see. The beauty and gorgeousness of J.Lo attracted and overwhelmed me. The single one show quite deserved watching. The lead, Constance Wu, was attractive, too. 

Hustlers was inspired by a true story, so it made me thinking a lot. The former strippers lived desperately in their own way and as a result they deviated from social norms. I cannot approve of what they did but I do not want to criticize them.

ハスラーズ

2020年２月、『ハスラーズ』をTOHOシネマズ錦糸町オリナスで観覧。

様々な美女が拝めると期待に胸膨らませて臨んだが、結局目を奪われたのはジェニファー・ロペスだけだった。相変わらず綺麗で妖艶な上、知らない間に貫禄も付いていて、颯爽と歩く彼女に見惚れつつ、絶世の美女は多少罪を犯しても許されるのではないかと一瞬思ってしまった。

そんな彼女の一味にカモられる男達を複雑な気分で眺めつつ、万一金回りが良くなったら、近づいてくる女には気を付けようとも思った。

アジア系のヒロインも魅力的だったが、圧巻だったのは、ジェイローのストリップのステージ。美しさやらセクシーさやら女っぷりに圧倒され、あれだけでも観た甲斐があった。

事実を基にしているので、色々考えさせられる物語。彼女達は彼女達なりに必死に生きた。そして、それが社会の規範に反していた。だから、賞賛は出来ない。でも、批判する気にもなれない。

Male Leads and the 2020 Academy Awards

In 2019, three actors quite impressed me at theaters. Joaquin Phoenix, Willem Dafoe and Taron Egerton. The 2020 Best Actor Oscar winner wonderfully acted Arthur and Joker in the controversial movie. The 2019 Oscar nominee played Vincent van Gogh as if he was possessed by the great painter in At Eternity's Gate. And the Welsh actor gave a wonderful performance as Elton John in Rocketman. 

I feel sorry that Taron Egerton was not even nominated for the 2020 Best Actor Oscar. However, even Robert De Niro in The Irishman was not done either, so all the 2020 Best Actor Oscar nominees must have been more fantastic, though I cannot understand why Leonardo DiCaprio was nominated in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood that I watched in October 2019 when he did not impress me so much, in addition, I cannot understand why Matt Damon and Christian Vale in Ford v Ferrari were both not even nominated.

2020年アカデミー賞と主演男優達

2019年に劇場観覧した映画の主演男優の中で、その演技に深く感銘を受けたのは、今回のアカデミー賞主演男優賞を受賞したホアキン・フェニックス、『永遠の門』においてゴッホが憑依したかのような演技が凄まじかったウィレム・デフォー、そして、『ロケットマン』でエルトン・ジョンを熱演したタロン・エガートンのお三方。 

ウィレム・デフォーは前回のアカデミー賞でノミネートされていたが、タロン・エガートンが今回ノミネートすらされていなかったのは、残念だった。『アイリッシュマン』のロバート・デ・ニーロすらノミネートされていなかったから、ノミネートされた俳優達がそれだけ素晴らしかったということだろう。『ワンス・アポン・ア・タイム・イン・ハリウッド』のレオナルド・ディカプリオがノミネートされていたのは、観ていただけに腑に落ちなかったが。加えて、『フォードvsフェラーリ』のマット・デイモンとクリスチャン・ベールがノミネートすらされていなかったのも解せない。

Joker

Joker is my most favorite movie among ones released in 2019. I watched it twice at a theater. 

In November 2019, I watched it for the first time at Movix Kameari. In a word, shocking. After watching it, I did not know whether it was just shocking or a masterpiece. It had such an impact. Although I could empathize with the main character, Arthur, yet I could not ruminate about the film for a while after that. 

In December 2019, I watched The Irishman at Kinema Junpo Theater in Kashiwa City, Chiba. After that, I did not feel like directly going home, and then I somehow remembered about Joker. I then felt that it was about time to face it again, so I went to Movix Kameari at night. 

I naturally empathized Arthur again as the last time, which made me felt uneasy because I suspected that I might be a psychopath. I also thought that I was lucky because I had not had been in a plight like the protagonist. I then feared myself when I realized that I was gloating over how Arthur changed from Happy to Joker. That was a tragedy but a strange world which encouraged me. 

I believe that people must be true themselves, yet it is sad if they cannot help committing crimes. 

The acting of Joaquin Phoenix really rocked my soul. When feeling the spirit of a performer, the performance is art. 

Robert De Niro was fat and hardly looked tough and sharp, so his features reminded me Danny DeVito. Mr. De Niro can play various roles, which is amazing. 

ジョーカー

2019年に公開された映画の中で１番感動したのは、『ジョーカー』。２回、劇場観覧した。 

まず、2019年11月にMovix亀有にて観覧。一言で言うと、衝撃的。観賞後、ただショッキングなだけか、名作か判断がつかなかった。そんな衝撃だった。主人公に感情移入は出来た。だが、しばらくの間、作品自体を直視することは出来なかった。 

そして、2019年12月、キネマ旬報シアターにて『アイリッシュマン』を観覧後、真っ直ぐ家に帰る気になれず、そんな時、『ジョーカー』を思い出し、改めて向き合う時が来たと感じて、Movix亀有に足を運んだ。 

前回同様、主人公のアーサーに自ずと感情移入している自分がいた。サイコパスの気があるのかと不安にもなったが、彼のような過去が無い自分はラッキーだったとも思えた。そして、アーサーが覚醒しジョーカーへ変貌する様にほくそ笑んでいる自分を、怖くもなった。悲惨な物語だが、なぜか勇気付けられる不思議な世界。 

人は自分に正直に生きるべきだと思う。でも、その結果、法を犯してしまうのは哀しい。 

ホアキン・フェニックスの演技には、大げさでなく心が震えた。魂を感じる演技は芸術だと思う。 

太った、精悍さも無いロバート・デ・ニーロは、ダニー・デヴィートとダブって見えた。彼は本当に演技の幅が広い。 

BlacKkKlansman

In July 2019, I watched BlacKkKlansman for the first time at Wasedasochiku, a movie theater, which cost me just 800 yen at that time. I had wanted to know the reason why Spike Lee got angry in the 2019 Academy Awards ceremony as Green Book was declared the winner for Best Picture. Watching it, I understood his feelings because I felt that it was definitely one of the masterpieces among Spike Lee joints. At the same time, however, I thought that it was political, so the loss could not be helped in the Academy Awards. All the same, the film seemed to be politically meaningful and a masterpiece in the world. It moreover entertained me so much that I shortly found it in myself to watch it again. 

Two days later, I went to the same theater where I watched both Do the Right Thing and the latest Spike Lee film, which cost me mere 1,300 yen. The theater usually runs double features and its admission price is reasonable, as well as Megro Cinema and Iidabashi Ginrei Hall. The old movie gave me a nostalgia a little and impressed me, but it was so serious that I could not relax so much. The latest one was different. It was not only serious but entertaining. 

I love BlacKkKlansman, which is historically and politically meaningful, as well as Do the Right Thing and Malcom X. In addition, it is enjoyable. It is also one of my favorite three movies which were released in Japan in 2019. 

The lead, John David Washington, looks inconspicuous, unlike his father, Denzel Washington. He, however, was wonderfully acting the first African-American officer suffering from racial discrimination in a police department. Adam Driver playing gave a good performance as the African-American officer's partner, too. I also liked Laura Harrier, who looked pretty and struck me through.

ブラック・クランズマン

2019年７月、早稲田松竹にて『ブラック・クランズマン』を観覧。料金は800円。スパイク・リーが、2019年のアカデミー賞授賞式にて、『グリーンブック』が作品賞に選ばれた時に怒りを露わにした理由をずっと知りたかったが、観賞後、その理由が何となく理解出来た。落選した『ブラック・クランズマン』は、間違いなく彼の名作の一つと言える。だが、政治色が濃い面がある為、作品賞には相応しくないと判断されたのだろう。個人的には、政治的に意義があり世界に通用する名作だと思う。その上、娯楽性も高かったので、すぐにまた再観覧する気になった。

その２日後、再度早稲田松竹に来館し、『ドゥ・ザ・ライト・シング』と『ブラック・クランズマン』の２本を観覧。料金は1,300円。目黒シネマや飯田橋ギンレイ・ホール同様、早稲田松竹も、映画を２本続けて比較的安く観れる劇場である。前者は、古い映画で幾分懐かしさもあり感動もした。だが、結構シリアスな作品でもあるため、そんなに気晴らしにはならなかった。しかし、後者は少し違う。シリアスでもあり娯楽性も有る作品。

『ブラック・クランズマン』はお気に入りの映画。そして、『ドゥ・ザ・ライト・シング』や『マルコムX』同様、歴史的および政治的にも意義のある作品。その上、この作品は楽しく観れる。昨年日本で公開された映画の中で最も気に入った３本のうちの一つでもある。

主人公を演じたジョン・デヴィッド・ワシントンは、父親のデンゼル・ワシントンと違って、あまり華が無い。だが、初の黒人警官として警察署で働きながら人種差別に思い悩む役を見事に演じ切っていた。彼の相棒役を演じたアダム・ドライバーも好演していた。そして、ローラ・ハリアー。とても綺麗で可愛らしく、ずっと魅入られていた。

Green Book

In March 2019, I watched Green Book at Movix Kameari. It was fun. The main character, Tony Lip, played by Viggo Mortensen was particularly amusing and so human that I often remembered the behaviors of the Italian bouncer and chauffeur for a while after watching it. Then I was surprised when I knew that the lead was not an Italian but a Danish-American. He must have studied hard about the way Tony were. I, however, did not feel that the movie deserved going out of my way to go to a theater at that time maybe because I had known that the film won the 2019 Oscar for Best Picture and I had expected too much from it. 

In September 2019, I watched the two movies The Favourite and Green Book at Megro Cinema, which cost me just 1,400 yen. As well as Iidabashi Ginrei Hall, the movie theater usually runs double features and its admission price is reasonable. Honestly, I had expected more from The Favourite than Green Book but I was kind of disappointed at the black comedy film maybe because it highlighted the fear of women and it was not good for a change. Contrary to my expectations, however, the heartwarming movie amused and entertained me far more than the previous time. I thought that it was because I had forgotten about the Oscar at that time and I watched it without extra expectations. Furthermore, my physical conditions were better than the last time when I suffered from hay fever. 

My feelings about films vary with diverse factors, so I am not cut out for a film critic. 

I love Green Book, especially the main character, Tony Lip, whose straightforward behaviors fascinate and impress me. Viggo Moretnsen gave a wonderful performance as the jovial and easygoing Italian. Moreover, the friendship between the hero and an African-American pianist moved me and has makes me think about racial discrimination.

グリーンブック

2019年３月、Movix亀有にて『グリーンブック』を観覧した。面白かった。特に、用心棒で運転手のイタリア人主人公が愉快で、とても人間味に溢れていて、観覧後も、度々彼の言動を思い出していた。ただ、その主演のヴィゴ・モーテンセンが、実はイタリア人ではなくデンマーク系アメリカ人であることには驚いたが。彼は、イタリアン人の仕草等をかなり研究したに違いない。しかし、わざわざ映画館で観るべき映画とは思わなかった。恐らく、アカデミー賞作品賞を受賞していた為、過度に期待し過ぎていたせいでそう感じたのだろう。 

2019年９月、目黒シネマにて『女王様のお気に入り』と『グリーンブック』を観覧。料金は1,400円だった。飯田橋ギンレイホール同様、作品を２本続けて観れる良心的な映画館。正直、お目当ては前者だったが、女の恐ろしさが際立っていて良い気分転換にはならず、それ程楽しめなかった。逆に、予想に反して、『グリーンブック』は凄く愉快に感じて昨年３月よりも遥かに楽しめた。前回はアカデミー賞受賞作と思いながら観たが、今回は『女王陛下のお気に入り』のおまけで何となく観た。その所為かもしれない。また、前回は花粉症に苦しんでいた。その所為もあったのだろう。 

様々な要因で映画評が変わってしまうので、私は評論家向きではない。 

『グリーンブック』の魅力は、主人公トニー・リップの単純明快な思考や言動。主役のヴィゴ・モーテンセンは愉快で呑気なイタリア人を見事に演じ切っている。さらに、黒人ピアニストとの友情も感動的で、また、人種問題についても考えさせられた。

Green Book & BlacKkKlansman

In October 2019, I watched the movies Green Book and BlacKkKlansman at Iibadashi Ginrei Hall which is a movie theater usually showing double features. I paid a mere 1,500 yen to watch both of them. It is a reasonable theater in Shinjuku Ward, Tokyo. 

Both of the movies are dealing with racial discrimination and had been nominated for Best Picture in the 2019 Academy Awards. In the end, Green Book won the Oscar. It was said that when the heart-warming movie was declared the winner in the ceremony, the director of the political movie BlacKkKlansman, Spike Lee, got angry and nearly walked out of the hall. The two films have such story. 

I love both of them and watched them three times at theaters in 2019. 

A similar thing had happened three decades earlier. Driving Miss Daisy won the Oscar for Best Picture in 1989 when Do the Right Thing directed by Spike Lee was even not nominated for it. Each of them was also dealing with racial discrimination. Driving Miss Daisy is heart-warming, yet Do the Right Thing is deep, politically meaningful and so serious that I need to mentally and physically get ready before watching it.

And, in 2019, history repeated itself, so I can understand Spike's anger.

I prefer simple and heart-warming stories to thought-provoking ones, so I like two Oscar winners for Best Picture in 1989 and 2019 respectively better than two movies directed by Spike Lee in the same years. 

I would rather watch a movie with a smile. 

グリーンブック ＆ ブラック・クランズマン

2019年10月、飯田橋ギンレンホールにて『グリーンブック』と『ブラック・クランズマン』を観覧した。２本で1,500円。良心的な映画館。

いずれも人種差別問題を扱った作品で、どちらも2019年のアカデミー賞作品賞にノミネートされていた。受賞したのはハートウォーミングな『グリーンブック』。授賞式でその発表があった際、政治色が濃い『ブラック・クランズマン』の監督スパイク・リーは、怒りを露わにして会場を出ようとしたとか。そんな曰く付きの二作品。

どちらも大好きな映画で、いずれも2019年に３回劇場観覧した。 

似たような事が1989年のアカデミー賞にも起きていた。作品賞は『ドライビング・ミス・デイジー』。同年のスパイク・リー監督作の『ドゥ・ザ・ライト・シング』はノミネートすらされなかった。いずれも同じく人種差別問題がテーマ。『ドライビング・ミス・デイジー』はハートウォーミングな作品だが、『ドゥ・ザ・ライト・シング』は、深くて大いに意義が有り、観るには覚悟がいるシリアスな作品。

そして、2019年、歴史は繰り返された。スパイク・リーの悔しさは理解出来る。

個人的には、考えさせられる話よりも単純で心温まる話が好きなので、1989年および2019年のアカデミー賞受賞作の方が、それぞれの年のスパイク・リーの作品よりもお気に入りである。 

映画はやはり笑顔で観たい。 

Watching Mobile Suit Gundam III in a Dolby Cinema Theater

In February 2020, I watched the animated movie Mobile Suit Gundam III: Encounters in Space in the Dolby Cinema theater of Marunouchi Piccadilly, a multiplex in Chiyoda Ward, Tokyo. That was the first time in 38 years I watched the movie at a theater and the first time I did a movie at a Dolby Cinema theater.

The movie was released in 1982, so the picture's quality was definitely old in spite of Dolby Cinema. All the same, it gave me a huge nostalgia and was still enjoyable enough. Although I had watched and enjoyed it sometimes on TV screens since the release, yet it was exceptional fun on the big screen. Moreover, I was pleased that I still had the heart of a boy because I could fully enjoy it, unlike Galaxy Express and Harmagedon that I watched last summer and two years ago respectively. I will watch the film again somewhere in the future. It might be one of my best movies forever.

As for the sound in the Dolby Cinema theater, I did not feel the differences so much between the theater and ordinary ones, so I felt that an extra charge of 600 yen for Dolby Cinema was kind of high for a poor man like me. It was at least good that I realized that I am not the kind of person who sticks to sound quality, though.

初ドルビーシネマ観覧は『機動戦士ガンダムIII』

2020年２月、『機動戦士ガンダムIII／めぐりあい宇宙編』を丸の内ピカデリーにてドルビーシネマで観覧した。映画館で観るのは38年ぶりの作品。ドルビーシネマの観賞は初めてだった。

1982年製作なので、ドルビーシネマにもかかわらず、画像はやはり古臭かった。それでも、とても懐かしくて、まだ十分に楽しめた。それまでに何度かTV画面で観ていたが、やはり大スクリーンでの観賞は格別。また、ここ数年の内に観た『銀河鉄道999』や『幻魔大戦』の時と違い、心から作品を楽しめた。まだ少年の心が残っているとも思えて、嬉しかった。いつかまたどこかで観る、ずっと好きでいられそうな映画の一つ。

音響に関しては、普通の映画館との違いをそんなに感じなかったので、ドルビーシネマ特別料金の600円は、私のような貧乏人には高く感じた。ただ、自分が音質に拘る人間ではないことが知れたのは収穫だった。

Parasite

In February 2020, I watched the Korean movie Parasite at TOHO Cinemas Nagareyama Ottakanomori, a multiplex. I felt that it was like a Korean version of the Japanese movie Shoplifters in the first part of it. I also remembered the animated movie Weathering With You in the part when heavy rain continued. I gradually felt that I could predict how the story ends. Then I started to be kind of disappointed when I watched the chauffeur acted by Song Kang-ho changing color as he was hearing his employer backbiting about him. However, the story developed far and away beyond my imaginations toward the end of it. 

Although the film is not my cup of tea, yet I can't help recognizing it as a masterpiece. It really shows the current condition in Korea and is quite entertaining, though I think that it is not so deep and I cannot understand why it received an award in the Cannes Film Festival. It might be just that I cannot appreciate lofty films and understand artistic things, which might be why my remarks are always kind of shallow and snobbish. 

The sister of the main character was a simple beauty. The actress, Park So-dam, struck me through. The most impressive performer was Song Kang-ho, a great Korean actor, who I had watched in the movie Joint Security Area for the first time more than 15 years before when I cried and was impressed with his acting. I have been interested in him since then, though I hardly watch Korean movies. Watching the 2019 movie, I was again fascinated by his casual but hot acting. 

Although I cannot praise it because I do not like the style, yet I believe that the workmanship is wonderful.

パラサイト 半地下の家族

2020年２月、韓国映画『パラサイト 半地下の家族』をTOHOシネマズ 流山おおたかの森で観覧。観始めは、韓国版『万引き家族』かぁと思い、雨が降り続く場面で、『天気の子』を思い出し、主人公の父親が、ご主人様が自分に関する陰口を叩いていたのを耳にして、その顔色が変わった辺りで、何となく展開が読めたと早合点し、若干期待外れっぽいぞとも思い始めたが、怒涛の終盤は遥かに想像を超えていた。 

好みではないが、好評価せざるを得ない力作。韓国の現状をリアルに描いていて、かつ、娯楽性にも富んでいる。しかし、内容はそんなに深いとは感じなかった。その為、何故カンヌ映画祭で賞を取れたのか理解に苦しむ。恐らく、私は、高尚で芸術性の高い作品を理解出来ない人間なのであろう。私のレビューが幾分浅くて俗物的なのはその所為かもしれない。 

主人公の姉役パク・ソダムが地味に美人で可愛かった。そして、ソン・ガンホ。韓国映画は滅多に観ないが、昔何気に観た『ＪＳＡ』で涙が溢れ、それ以来、彼の出ている映画だけは気になっていた。今回も、さり気なくも熱い演技に魅せられた。韓国の偉大な俳優さん。 

作品自体が好みでないので、褒め称えることは出来ない。でも、出来栄えは素晴らしいと思う。

Sleeping Beauty & Maleficent

In November 2019, I watched Sleeping Beauty and Maleficent on DVD to make a decision as to whether or not I watch Maleficent: Mistress of Evil at a theater. 

I felt that Sleeping Beauty was dated because of its old picture and typical happy ending, which couldn't be helped, for it was produced more than 60 years ago. The three fairies who raised Princess Aurora were amusing and lovely, which is the only thing that impressed me. 

As for Maleficent, the pictures were fantastic. I also felt that Elle Fanning as Aurora was so charming and pretty. Then, I was surprised when I realized that she is the little sister of Dakota Fanning and she was playing a toddler in the movie I am Sam. Before I knew it, she became a beautiful young woman. I, of course, came to like her. Moreover, Angelina Jolie as Maleficent was cool and attractive. The two actors made me decide to watch the sequel at a theater.

眠れる森の美女 ＆ マレフィセント

2019年11月、当時公開中だった『マレフィセント２』を観覧するかどうか決める為に、『眠れる森の美女』と『マレフィセント』をDVD観賞した。 

『眠れる森の美女』は、映像が古く典型的なハッピーエンドだったので、とても古臭く感じた。60年以上前に製作された作品だから、しょうがない事ではある。オーロラ姫を育て上げた３人の妖精達が面白くて愛らしかった事のみ印象に残っている。 

『マレフィセント』は、まず、映像が素晴らしかった。そして、オーロラ役のエル・ファニングが可愛らしくて綺麗だった。また、彼女が、ダコタ・ファニングの妹で、映画『アイ・アム・サム』にも幼子役で出演していたのを知り、知らない間に綺麗な女の子になっていた事に驚いた。もちろん、すぐファンになった。また、アンジェリーナ・ジョリーもカッコよくて魅力的だった。そんな彼女達に魅せられ、続編の『マレフィセント２』を観覧する気になった。

Maleficent: Mistress of Evil

Last November, I watched Maleficent: Mistress of Evil at Movix Kameari. The main characters are all women. The male characters are all supporting ones. The movie seems to praise feminism, which impressed me. 

Angelina Jolie as Maleficent looked elegant and dignified. I felt that she was not just an actress but a great person beyond genders maybe because I had known that she was one of the producers. 

Elle Funning as Aurora was tender, pretty and lovely. She was really suitable for the role of a princess. 

Michelle Pfeiffer as Queen Ingrith was beautiful for her age. She was splendidly playing the villain, which highlighted the loveliness of Princess Aurora. 

The pictures of the film was so magnificent that I felt fortunate that I went out of my way to watch it at a theater. The story of it was not bad, which satisfied me more than enough. I honestly had not expected it so much, yet it was fun and touched me over all. 

マレフィセント２

昨年11月、Movix亀有にてマレフィセント２を観覧。主役は全員女性で、男性の俳優は全員脇役。フェミニズムを高らかに宣言している感じが印象的だった。 

魔女役のアンジェリーナ・ジョリーは優雅であり威厳があった。そして、製作にも加わっていたのを知っていたせいか、ただの女優ではなく、性別を超えた偉大な人物に思えた。 

オーロラ姫のエル・ファニングは、優しげで綺麗で愛らしかった。お姫様役に相応しい女優さん。 

王女役のミシェル・ファイファーは、お歳を召しているが、まだ美人。悪者役を見事に演じ切り、それが、エル・ファニングの愛らしさをより際立たせていた。 

映像はとてつもなく壮大で、わざわざ劇場に足を運んだ甲斐があった。物語も十分に満足出来る面白さ。正直、それほど期待していなかったが、面白かったし感動もさせられた。
