Bohemian Rhapsody #1

In December 2018, I watched Bohemian Rhapsody for the first time at Movix Kameari. I could not stop crying. After that, I watched it four times at theaters. The last one was United Cinemas Terrace Mall Matsudo where I did it on Screen X. I was moved to tears every time I did. I want to watch it again at not a TV screen but a theater one. It is the most moving film I have ever done. The story follows the vocalist of the rock band Queen, Freddie Mercury, and his fellows. It describes friendship, glory, betrayal and various forms of love, not to mention music. 

I had not been a fan of Queen but I had known that Freddie was the vocalist of it and a gay, moreover, he died of AIDS in his forties, so the story was kind of predictable. The music, however, was really wonderful. I at first thought that the movie was unorthodox and unfair because many of Queen's great tunes were used in it but I gradually changed my mind and did not care about whether it is orthodox since I was moved to tears every time I watched it. The most important thing is to entertain me about movies. 

When I watched Rocketman which describes half of Elton John's life, I realized why I was really touched by Bohemian Rhapsody. It was because the story was about a rock band. I was fascinated by the atmosphere which not a solo artist but a rock band can create. 

I was always moved to tears at the scene where Queen is performing at Live Aid. Queen plays the song "Hammer to Fall" in the live scene, which always reminded me the song "Hammer (4.8 billion peoples' blues)" by The Blue Hearts, a Japanese rock band. "Hammer to Fall" was written by the guitarist of Queen, Brian May, and was included in Queen's album The Works released in 1984. "Hammer" released in 1987 was written by Mashima "Mercy" Masatoshi, the guitarist of The Blue Hearts that is my most favorite band in Japan. I am pleased if the young Mercy wrote the song in homage to Queen. Then I might have been detained to watch Bohemian Rhapsody and be quite moved by the film if the British band had inspired the members of the Japanese band that I love most deeply.

ボヘミアン・ラプソディ #1

2018年12月、『ボヘミアン・ラプソディ』を Movix 亀有にて初観賞。感涙。その後４回劇場観覧した。５回目のユナイテッド・シネマ テラスモール松戸においては Screen X で観覧。観る度に毎回泣いた、テレビ画面ではなく劇場でまた観たい、生涯で一番感動した映画。ロックバンド クイーンのヴォーカリスト、フレディ・マーキュリーと彼の仲間達の物語。音楽に加え、友情、栄光、裏切り、そして様々な形の愛が詰まっている。 

クイーンのファンではなかったが、ヴォーカルのフレディがゲイでエイズに罹って早逝した事くらいは知っていたので、物語の展開は想定内だった。素晴らしかったのは、音楽。クイーンの名曲をふんだんに使っているので、映画としては邪道かもしれないと思っていた時期も確かにあったが、毎回泣かされるうちにそんな事はどうでもよくなった。映画は面白ければそれでいい。 

また、エルトン・ジョンの半生を描いた映画『ロケットマン』を観覧した後、『ボヘミアン・ラプソディ』に凄く感動した理由が分かった気がした。それはバンドの物語だったからだ。ソロ・アーティストでは生み出せない、バンドでしか醸し出せない雰囲気に魅せられたのだろう。 

バンドエイドでの演奏シーンでは毎回泣いた。そして、その中の「ハンマー・トゥ・フォール」という曲を聴く度に、日本のロックバンド、ザ・ブルーハーツのナンバー「ハンマー（48憶のブルース）」を思い出した。それぞれのギタリスト、ブライアン・メイと真島昌利が作詞・作曲している。前者は1984年に発表されたクイーンのアルバム『ザ・ワークス』に収録されていて、マーシーの曲は1987年発表。若き日のマーシーのクイーンに対するオマージュだったとしたら嬉しい。ザ・ブルーハーツは私が一番好きな日本のロックバンド。クイーンが彼等に影響を与えていたとしたら、私と『ボヘミアン・ラプソディ』の出会いは運命だったのかもしれない。

Blade Runner 2049

In May 2020, I watched Blade Runner 2049 for the first time on DVD. The movie was released in 2017 and stars Ryan Gosling. The prequel's lead, Harrison Ford, costars in it. The executive producer is Ridley Scott who was the director of the prequel. The director is Denis Villeneuve. 

The story is set in Los Angeles in 2049. The movie follows K, a replicant and a blade runner, who struggles to find his own identity. 

I had heard that the young star Ryan Gosling costars with the veteran star Harrison Ford. Ford, however, appeared later than in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, so I was tired of waiting. Then, when the two stars appeared together, I remembered that the older star costarred with Sean Connery in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. As for Gosling, he gave a wonderful performance as K which was the difficult role, though I doubt that he will be a superstar in his sixties like Ford and the Scottish actor. Anyway, I think that Gosling is a good actor. Ford acted well Deckard who was a former blade runner and became old. In addition to them, I was impressed with two actresses. One is Ana de Armas as Joi, K's AI girlfriend, who was really lovely. Another is Sylvia Hoeks as Luv, a replicant and K's enemy, who was cool and beautiful. 

I love the film but I prefer the prequel. The lead and music of it makes a crucial difference. I love Harrison Ford in the prequel more than Ryan Gosling in the sequel. I also feel that the music by Vangelis in the older movie is wonderful more than in the newer movie. Moreover, I think that music has a tremendous power to enhance a movie.

ブレードランナー 2049

2020年５月、『ブレードランナー 2049』をDVDにて初観賞。2017年公開。主演はライアン・ゴズリング。前作の主演ハリソン・フォードも出演。製作総指揮は、前作の監督リドリー・スコットで、監督はドゥニ・ヴィルヌーヴ。
舞台は前作から30年経ったロサンジェルス。ブレードランナーであるレプリカントKの自分探しの物語。
ライアン・ゴズリングとハリソン・フォードという新旧２大スターの共演と聞いていたのだが、ハリソンの登場が、『スター・ウォーズ／フォースの覚醒』の時よりかなり遅くて待ちくたびれてしまった。そして、ライアンとの共演シーンでは、ハリソンが『インディ・ジョーンズ／最後の聖戦』でショーン・コネリーと共演していたことを思い出していた。ライアン・ゴズリングに関しては、彼が60歳を超えても前述のベテラン俳優の二人のように映画の主演を出来るとは思わない。でも、彼は彼で良い俳優だと思う。人造人間という難しい役を見事に演じていた。ハリソン・フォードは、年老いた元ブレードランナーのデッカード役を無難に演じていた印象。その他で印象に残っているのは、２人の女優。Kの恋人ジョイ役のアナ・デ・アルマスは、とても可愛らしかった。そして、Kの敵である女レプリカント、ラヴを演じたシルヴィア・フークスは綺麗でカッコよかった。
かなり良い作品だが、やはり前作の方が好きだ。決定的な違いは、主演俳優と音楽。前作のハリソン・フォードの方が本作のライアン・ゴズリングよりも好感が持てるし、そして、音楽も、前作のヴァンゲリスの曲の方が素晴らしい。音楽には本当に凄い力があると思う。

Blade Runner

In May 2020, I watched Blade Runner on DVD. I have watched the masterpiece many times since the science fiction movie was released in 1982. The director is Ridley Scott. The lead is Harrison Ford. 

When it was released, I went to a theater more than three times. The theater also played porn movies, so I was really embarrassed as I passed the entrance. I, however, desired to watch it at that time even if I was misunderstood. Even now I can enjoy watching the film, which is amazing. 

The story is set in Los Angeles in 2019. Bioengineered humanoids known as replicants begin to have emotion and revolt against humans, so blade runners, who are special policemen, are ordered to eliminate the replicants. The characters do not talk much. The hard-boiled movie describes battles between them. 

Harrison Ford acts well a decent blade runner. Then I am most impressed with the replicant acted by Rutger Hauer. He is the leader of a team of replicants and struggling to live as long as possible. In my teens I wanted to know why I live, so I thought that how the replicant struggles to might have made me find the reason. That was why I went to the theater several times, though I could not find it then. I have not known about it yet. Now I live because I just do not want to die. 

The action scenes are predictable, yet the movie creates a super cool atmosphere that fascinates me always. Moreover, the music composed by Vangelis is wonderful. The composer worked for Chariots Fire released in 1981 and Missing released in 1982. I have watched both of them many times since they were released. They are now still my favorites.

ブレードランナー

2020年５月、『ブレードランナー』をDVD観賞した。これまでに何度も観ている名作。1982年公開のSF映画。監督はリドリー・スコット。主演はハリソン・フォード。

公開時、映画館で３回位観覧したが、その映画館はポルノ映画も上映していたので、少年だった私は入る時とても恥ずかしかった。でも、当時は誤解されてでも観たかった。未だに楽しめる驚異的な作品。

舞台は近未来のロサンゼルス。感情が芽生え、人間に反乱を起こした人造人間レプリカントと警察の専任捜査官ブレードランナーの戦いが描かれている。セリフの少ないハードボイルドな映画。

ハリソン・フォードが、まあまあな腕前のブレードランナーを好演している。だが、この作品で一番思い入れがあるのは、ルトガー・ハウアーが演じているレプリカントのリーダー。死にたくないと最後まであがく彼の姿が、人は何故生きるのかと考え始めていた少年の私には、その答えのヒントになると思えて、初観覧後も数回劇場に足を運んだ。結局、答えは見つからなかったが。今も答えは分からない。死にたくないから生きているだけ。

アクションシーンは普通だが、全編に漂う独特の雰囲気に毎回魅せられる。そして、ヴァンゲリスの音楽が素晴らしい。彼は、前年公開の『炎のランナー』と同年公開の『ミッシング』の音楽も担当している。その２作品も公開時から何度も観ている私のお気に入りの作品だ。

Solo: A Star Wars Story #2

In July 2018, I watched Solo: A Star Wars Story for the first time in Movix Kameari. It was really fun. 

In May 2020, I did it again on DVD. It was fun again. 

The movie describes the adventure of a young man named Han Solo who also appears as the older man in the original Star Wars trilogy. Nobody wields the Force in the movie, but all the same it is worth watching. 

Han Solo is positive and full of energy. Besides, he is insolent, arrogant and daring. The ambitious and optimistic man is talkative and good at bluffing. He bluntly says what he wants to and he somehow gets through any difficulties with a defiant smile overall. He is occasionally stunned but is never depressed. He always fixes his eyes forward. I adore him. As for his name, Solo, I think that it is suitable for him. I believe that he is not a lone wolf because he has a partner called Chewbacca and flexibly ally to people whose interests coincide with his. He hates to be told what to do, loves freedom and likes to solo. Han Solo is a good and right name for him. 

I thought that Alden Ehrenreich as Han solo gave a wonderful performance as well as Harrison Ford in the original Star Wars trilogy. Then I was pleased and excited as an old fan of Star Wars when I watched Chewbacca and the Millennium Falcon appearing.

ハン・ソロ #2

2018年７月、『ハン・ソロ／スター・ウォーズ・ストーリー』をMovix亀有にて初観賞。かなり楽しかった。

2020年５月、DVDにて再観賞。再度楽しめた。

『スター・ウォーズ』シリーズのハン・ソロの若かりし頃の冒険が描かれている。誰もフォースを使わないが、見応え十分な作品。

ポジティブなエネルギーに満ちているハン・ソロ。生意気で、傲慢で、大胆。野心家で楽天家。口が達者で、はったりが得意。言いたいことははっきり言う。どんな局面でも不敵な笑みを浮かべつつ何とか切り抜ける。落胆は一瞬。決して落ち込まず、常に前を見据える。憧れの人物だ。利害が一致すれば同盟を組むのも厭わない柔軟性も兼ね備えている上にチューバッカのような相棒もいるので、彼には一匹オオカミという形容は合わない。だが、命令されるのが嫌いで、自由気ままに単独で行動するのが好きな彼には、ソロという名前が本当に合っていると思う。

そして、主演のオールデン・エアエンライクは、ハリソン・フォードに負けない演技を披露していたと思う。また、チューバッカやファルコン号が登場する場面を観れたのは、オールドファンとしては本当に嬉しかったし、感動もした。

The Big Short

In May 2020, I watched The Big Short for the first time on DVD. 

The movie was released in 2015. The director is Adam Mckay. The lead is Christian Bale. It is based on the nonfiction book The Big Short: Inside the Doomsday Machine written by Lewis Michael, a journalist, and published in 2010. 

It follows the men who have predicted the collapse of the U.S. housing bubble and acquire enormous wealth in the end. 

It realistically describes how ugly and stupid the company persons were, who had completely relied on the financial system health and the ratings published by credit-rating agencies in the 2000s. I think that persons always must have a curiosity about everything and a sense of crisis no matter how good the economy is, yet they cannot resist if all the people around them have the same opinion. As for Michael and Jared, acted by Christian Bale and Ryan Gosling respectively, both of them have strong nerves in addition to excellent foresight. Character and encouragement are needed, not to mention intelligence, in order to succeed in anything. 

The 1987 movie Wall Street directed by Oliver Stone describes how greedy people are. However, the 2015 movie does the contrast between people who are blinded by their greed and cannot perceive a crisis and persons who calmly analyze the times, go against the current and believe in themselves to the end, which really touched me. 

I sometime have felt that people around me are all foolish and that that is the way it goes. Then since I watched the movie, I have thought that precious few people, who are really brilliant and have a strong belief, are deceiving, manipulating and saving this world and that that is the way it goes. 

マネー・ショート

2020年５月、『マネー・ショート 華麗なる大逆転』をDVDにて初観賞。 

2015年公開。監督はアダム・マッケイ。主演はクリスチャン・ベール。原作は、ジャーナリスト、マイケル・ルイスが2010年に発表したノンフィクション『世紀の空売り 世界経済の破綻に賭けた男たち』。 

アメリカのサブプライムローン危機を事前に察知し、逆に巨額の利益を得た男達の実話。 

金融システムの健全性と格付け会社のランクを信じ切った馬鹿な会社人間達の阿保面が、リアルに描かれている。どんなに景気が良い時でも常にアンテナを張って危機意識を持たねば、とは思うが、周りの人間全員が何の疑念も持っていなければ、どうしても流されてしまうもの。クリスチャン・ベール演じるマイケル・バーリやライアン・ゴズリング演じるジャレド・ベネットは、先見の明に加えて、肝が据わっていた。成功を収めるには、知能だけではなく気骨や胆力も備わっていなければいけないのだろう。 

1987年に公開されたオリバー・ストーン監督作の『ウォール街』では人の貪欲さが描かれていたが、本作では、欲に目が眩み危機を察知出来なかった男達と、時世を冷静に分析し時勢に流されずに自分を信じた男達の対比が描かれていて、実に面白かった。 

生きているとたまに思うことがある。世の中バカばっかりだ、と。でも実際には、世の中は、ほんの一握りの本当に頭が良くて強い信念を持った人達が、世界を欺いたり操ったり救ったりしているのだろう。観賞後にそんな事を思った。
